And Pull The Trigger – First Day Done
Just a really quick post. I’m rooted, it’s nearly midnight and I’m finishing up my lesson plans for the morning. Have a big day tomorrow. 3 classes starting at 9am and finishing at 7pm.
Today, my so called “difficult” class was a ball. After some contemptuous looks from some of the girls in the class, we were having a great time with the games and activities. Man, these dudes can SCREAM.
You flick through the vocab/grammar flash cards, and you get quicker and quicker and the kids get more and more hysterical and just clambering all over themselves like zombies to brains, trying to get the answer out first, and loudest. I’m still not sure what they consider to be the most important, the loudest or the quickest answer. It’s too close to call.
The Kindy Art Class this morning was hilarious. The assistant teachers had obviously decided, long before Chris and I got into class (Chris, being another teacher there, taking the other White Rabbits Class. I’m WR2, He’s WR1. Follow the white rabbit…) that we were combining classes today and it was going to be fun.
So I put my lesson plan aside for this week and after eliciting questions out of kids, and playing some coloured ball throwing games, we all blew up balloons and just beat the shit out of each other with them for 45 minutes, as loud as we could.
Imagine 20 Vietnamese 4 year olds, in a tiny, mirror walled room, full of balloons and boisterous white men, immediately after the whole school has eaten chocolate ice-cream cake and lollies. Jesus… H… Christ. I can sum it up the general vibe in 5 words… “OMG BALLOONS ARE THE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111″
I gotta get some sleep. I feel like I’ve been torn a new head. It’s infinitely more satisfying and enjoyable than I thought teaching could be. I can do this, and I think I can do it really well.
Adios.
