Rose and Sam's Excellent Adventure

I sound my barbaric LOL over the rooftops of the world.

Visas, Homecoming and Plans

Sam | February 2, 2010

Hey kids,
Been a long time without posts, not without good reason. I figure you can only take so many stories about kids doing cute and stupid stuff so I kept them to a fair minimum.
We just paid $230USD each, for 3 month SINGLE ENTRY visas which has made us feel mildly raped to say [...]

Vietnam Independence Day 02-09-09

Sam | September 3, 2009

Long time no post! It’s been so long, this post might be very short.
We celebrated Independence Day today, which marks the Vietnamese politely asking the French to leave and the French saying “Sure, fine. Let’s go. We’d had enough anyway”. Actually, I think it was a little more involved than that, something about Dien [...]

Teaching, and its side effects.

Sam | July 29, 2009

Women: Even though I don’t have a cold, to fully understand my predicament, visit this link immediately.
I’ve been flat out all week with some stupid virus I picked up somewhere along the way, I suspect at school. Started with feeling fairly shite, then my fever went up, and stayed up and all my bones hurt [...]

Little Ducks

Rose | July 13, 2009

Rainy day greetings to you all,
Hanoi appears to be slowly drowning, but Sam has ventured forth to perform the Noble task of teaching English to four year olds.
Finished my first official day today. It was Music in English, so lots of singing and dancing, let me share one with you as no one should be [...]

Kancho: The Real Arc of Instability.

Sam | July 5, 2009

Today, I finally learned the inconvenient truth that there’s nothing more unsettling than a 6 y/old’s wirey, Vietnamese fingers up your bunghole when you’re not expecting it.
If you’re unsure, exactly, what the art of Kancho is, visit this link which is the Google Image Search for “Kancho”.
I copped it sweet, and Phuket Thailand, [...]

Into The Breech…

Sam | July 3, 2009

Tomorrow. Day one of Sammy Solo.
I’ve got the kindy class in the morning (pictured). It’s art day and this month’s theme (set by the vietnamese government) is colour and balloons so it’s colouring in balloons time. Let’s review those colours kids!
Then I have the class I’ve been warned about all week. It’s the difficult [...]

“Kick Me”

Sam | July 2, 2009

5 minutes into my teaching career, and I have a “Kick Me!” sign stuck to my back, and I’m wondering how such a small person can create so much noise without an amplifier and how my boss can look so much like Leonie Wilson without being a relation. And in the back of my [...]

Teaching and 16 posts.

Rose | July 1, 2009

A big hello to all the people out there on the internets.
Well, Sam told me something very interesting the other day. You see he is always saying that I don’t post enough blah, blah, blah, and it turns out he is actually right! I have only posted 16 to his 117!  So I am rectifying [...]

WE’RE EMPLOYED

Sam | June 30, 2009

Rose and I have both been offered jobs at Just Kids, in Hanoi and we’ve accepted. The pay is great (especially for our first positions) and the people are lovely and we’re teaching young Vietnamese kids, which are have been the source of most Vietnamese gags so far.
More to follow! But we’re both very happy [...]

Rose might be having kids!

Sam | June 22, 2009

Excuse the sensationalist headline, but it’s in my blood, and I’m fresh from reading about a “Missing child found in Sandwich”. Notice the proper noun for the place, rather than the foodstuff.
Anyway, Rose has an interview coming up for a job teaching 3 year old kids at “Just Kids” and teaching Creative Writing (age group [...]
